Puttenham is situated on the south side of the Hog's Back four miles west of Guildford in the county of Surrey. The town of Guildford is approximately 30 miles S-W of London.
Puttenham is easily accessible from the A31 which runs along the ridge of the Hog's Back to the north of the village and the A3 which is to the S-E of the village.

Puttenham is on a bed of greensand in the rim of the Weald. The weald is a self-contained area bound by chalk the stretches through Sussex, Kent and parts of surrey.
